1. Be alert for:
- Odd shaped or wrapped packages
- Discolored or bulky envelopes
- Sloshing sound within a package
- Envelopes/packages with no return address
2. Look for:
- Return address from an expected shipper/sender
- Return address to match post mark
- Your name and address spelled correctly
- A specific title rather than a generic term
- Obvious misspellings
- Over-paid postage on packages
- No postage or non-cancelled postage
- Markings or labeling such as: "Open Immediately", "Special Delivery"," Confidential"
3. Question yourself:
- Do you know the sender?
- Are you expecting such a delivery?
- Is the package or letter intended for a person that does not reside or work at your location?
4. If you discover a suspicious item or powder substance:
- Avoid breathing any dust
- Immediately put the letter/package in the available container and tie it off
- Leave the package sealed at your desk or work site
- Leave the immediate area and immediately wash your hands with soap and hot water
- Isolate others from the immediate area
- Call 9-1-1 immediately to report the incident
5. Have the following available for immediate isolation should you receive a envelope/package with white powder or other unknown type product:
- Garbage can with a plastic liner and tie wrap
- Clear Tupperware type container with lid
- Clear plastic bag
